Things to see and do Westport New Zealand

Popular Walks, Cycle Trails & Activities in Buller

Westport is the largest service township in the Buller District. It’s often described as the wilderness gateway to the region, with access to an amazing range of outdoor activities and experiences. There’s an eclectic mix of retail shops, craft galleries and food & beverage outlets in the township. Westport also boasts a museum, a theatre and a sports complex.

With Cape Foulwind only ten minutes drive from Westport, we think Omau Settlers Lodge is the perfect place to escape the bustle and use as a base to explore the stunning northern west coast.

The name, Cape Foulwind, was bestowed upon the area by English explorer James Cook in 1770 after his ship Endeavour was blown quite a distance offshore from this point.

This area boasts a growing network of walking & cycle trails, and unspoiled sandy beaches for swimming, surfing and exploring. Nature is literally on your doorstep with wild weka, tui, penguins and fur seals just a few of the locals you’re likely to encounter!
